This is my first coding assignment for my software engineering class that started today. It’s going to be a really good semester.
UPDATE: I got my grade back and
“100″
Since this post has gotten some attention, I feel like it’s worth mentioning that this was just the first half of the assignment.
The second half, which we weren’t made aware of until the day we were meant to turn this one in, was to trade USB drives with the person sitting next to us and MODIFY their “unreadable” code without getting any help from them.
This was to teach us two things:
1) In this field, you’ll spend more time working with code written by other people than you will writing original code from a blank slate. The people who wrote the original code will probably not be around to help you. Learning to read code is IMPORTANT, even if it seems unreadable.
2) There is a strong brotherhood/sisterhood among programmers and software engineers. Respect that bond when you’re writing code and documentation. In my professor’s words: “When you write code, pretend that the person who will have to maintain it after you’re gone is a homicidal maniac who knows where you live.”
people don’t remember this but in the early 2000s white brunettes and white blondes were treated as something even deeper than different races- they were seen as like animals of two different species locked in a never ending battle for dominance. they were like yin and yang- the blonde was pathos and the brunette logos. it was truly something to behold.
I used to have a shirt that said “blondes have more fun” that I wore while brunette and when random men would say “You’re not blonde” I’d reply “I’m also not having much fun”
“Getting into this hobby is actually super cheap and easy!!!! First, start with a section of land and a house that you own and can mess up at your discretion”
The original inspiration for this is that I’ve looked up a lot of basic woodworking stuff multiple times to try and make better and better tortoise enclosures, and ended up in this trap every time lmao
“It’s much cheaper to just buy this size of wood and take it to your table saw” WHAT FUCKING TABLE SAW
the secret is that people who have a garage with a table saw are constantly looking for reasons to justify that use of space and money. so if you find somebody with a table saw and ask if you can use it, you’re actually doing them a huge favor by justifying the saw continuing to take up space. “of course I need a table saw. what if somebody needs to upgrade a turtle enclosue.”
October 3, 1992: Sinead O’Connor appeared on Saturday Night Live singing an acapella cover of Bob Marley’s song “War”, changing some of the lyrics to include references to child abuse, and ending the performance by tearing up a photo of Pope John Paull II and saying “fight the real enemy”.
This ruined her career and she was telling the truth, as we all came to find out years later.
Please remember she didn’t consider it as a career ruiner.
To speak on how it “ruined” her career ignores her own feelings on it. Please acknowledge how she felt about it, instead of how you see it.
